Food 4 South Florida Drive Collects 6 Tons Of Food

The Marcum Foundation was established in 2005 as a way to support charitable organizations within the South Florida community. Team members from the firm Marcum LLP are actively involved in the selection of causes. They participate in a variety of fundraising activities throughout the year, offering their time and money to charities that are dear to them.

Foodbanks are hurting in these tough economic times, and this means some of the most vulnerable residents in our population that depend on them--including the elderly--are suffering.

Local food banks, like Stop Hunger, are having trouble keeping their shelves stocked with food as the demand for their services grows. Due to state budget cuts, Stop Hunger's meal distributions went from 500-thousand a month to just about 100-thousand meals a month.

To help out food banks, like Stop Hunger, CBS4 and Neighbors 4 Neighbors collected food from the community during the Food 4 South Florida food drive. One of Marcum’s “Core Values” is Community, Tax and Business Services partner, Don Butler, and a number of Marcum LLP employees volunteered their time to collect items for the Food Drive.

Food 4 South Florida Drive collected more than 12 thousand pounds (6 tons) of food, in Broward and Miami-Dade counties, for area food banks. Many local businesses, agencies and organizations collected food throughout the week and brought collected items to local BankUnited branch locations in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

Because the economy is also making it harder for pet owners, Neighbors will also accepted pet food donations and arranged distribution for the community's furry friends. Neighbors 4 Neighbors said this year's outcome was tremendous - 12-thousand pounds of food were collected in Miami Dade and Broward counties.

In appreciation to the many volunteers that attended Lynne Cameron, Executive Director, Neighbors 4 Neighbors stated:

“Many thanks to those of you who participated in our food drive. It was quite successful. A special thanks to BankUnited.I was at the Kendall location and the people, there were wonderful. So enthusiastic and welcoming. Donna Butler had everything so well organized, it was a joy working with her and the BU team. Thanks also to Don Butler and the Marcum LLP employees for collecting and Muriel for her Tropical Jazzercise group which always comes through for us with donations. The email from Nelly below has a link to the stories. ”

Nelly Rubio, Community Relations Director, WFOR-TV, CBS4 & WBFS, My33 also shared her gratitude for all of the community that donated to the cause.

“I want to thank all of you who donated to our week-long drive here at the Station and to those who took the time to bring their donations to the drop- off locations on Saturday. We truly appreciate the support.

We made many friends in the community with this project and the food that we collected and the awareness that we raised will go a long way in helping needy families and seniors who are coping with the current economic crisis. We should all feel very proud to be a part of the CBS4/My33 family. We’ve done good!”
