Feeding South Florida, a not for profit organization, empowers other South Florida Not-for-profit organizations to feed needy people and improve their lives. They do this by providing food and other grocery products: and by educating and engaging the local community to fight hunger and poverty.

Feeding South Florida is the South Florida affiliate of Feeding America, a member of the Florida Association of Food Banks and the largest food bank in the State of Florida.

The Tri County Humane Society for the prevention of cruelty to animals believes animals, as living creatures, have value beyond economic measure and are entitled to legal, moral, ethical consideration, and protection. At a single shelter in Miami-Dade County, up to 150 animals are euthanized each day. Paws 4 You Rescue, a nonprofit, volunteer animal rescue organization, works to save these animals by finding suitable homes and providing quality medical care, ranging treatment for heartworm and skin infections to major surgery and rehabilitation.

Diana Smith, a 28-year-old South Florida mother and dear friend to many is battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). She desperately needs a transplant—an operation that will cost up to $40,000. Her challenges were recently magnified when the family’s home was robbed and valuable collectibles she was planning to sell were stolen. Donations will be sent to the Bone Marrow Foundation.

Nearly 33 million Americans receive assistance each year through services that provide food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children. Last year, the Marcum Foundation sponsored a toy drive, collecting more than $500 worth of toys for the Salvation Army.

Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital is the leading children's hospital in Broward and Palm Beach Counties. It is the only children's hospital in Broward and Palm Beach Counties performing cardiac catheterization and open heart surgery, and it is one of only a few hospitals in the nation minimally invasive, endoscopic surgery for cranial abnormalities. In 2005, the Marcum Foundation donated more than $1,000 worth of toys to the hospital.

Since its inception in 1996, Lee National Denim Day has adhered to a simple philosophy: one day, one cause, one cure®. In 13 years, that philosophy has become a mantra for millions and has made an impact Lee Jeans never dreamed possible.

It all started when several Lee Jeans employees realized that each of them, in one form or another, had been touched by breast cancer. An everyday conversation sparked an idea and led to the creation of Lee National Denim Day, which has become one of the largest single-day fundraisers nationwide for breast cancer.

Since its first year, Lee National Denim Day has raised more than $75 million for the fight against breast cancer and unites nearly one million supporters nationwide each year.

Last month, 15-year-old Broward resident Michael Brewer was the victim of a horrific crime. Intentionally set afire by a group of neighborhood bullies, Michael sustained severe burns over 80% of his body. In the coming months, Michael will undergo numerous painstaking surgeries and skin grafts.

In 2005, we established the Marcum Foundation to support special needs in our community—needs like those of Michael Brewer, a Broward teen who could be one of our own children or the child or a relative or friend. The Marcum Foundation supports children and families like Michael’s who might otherwise not receive the support they so desperately need.

Started in 1999, the Treasure Box Project is a grass roots endeavor that brings joy in the form of gift boxes delivered to children who might otherwise not receive a birthday or holiday present. The colorful boxes are filled with items like books, bubbles, school supplies and toiletries. Last year alone, the Treasure Box Project delivered more than 3,500 gift boxes to needy children in South Florida.

Queen for a Day, originally started as a nonprofit organization to help girls with self-esteem issues, is a South Florida-based program for pediatric cancer patients that offers a joyful distraction from the physical strain and emotional distress of cancer treatment. Girls are given makeovers, manicures and rhinestone tiaras, while boys are treated like heroes with firefighter and police officer-themed gifts.
