Marcum LLP Becomes Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center Grand Founder - $100,000 Gift to Support Ongoing Research Initiatives

Miami, FL—W. Jarrard Goodwin, M.D., F.A.C.S., Sylvester Director, announced today that Marcum LLP, one of Florida’s largest independent accounting and advisory firms, has become a Grand Founder of Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Miller School of Medicine. Through its foundation, Marcum will contribute $20,000 each year over the next five years to support the center’s ongoing research initiatives and mission-related activities.

“Sylvester has brought hope and healing to countless individuals in this community and beyond,” said Lawrence H. Blum, Marcum LLP’s senior partner. “Now, more than ever, as tremendous strides are being made at Sylvester in the fight against cancer, we stand committed to support this institution’s mission to save lives and reduce the human burden of cancer.”

Marcum LLP has been a long-time supporter of Sylvester. The cancer center is one of the firm’s designated charitable organizations for its planned giving program. In addition, over the years Marcum has provided pro bono services to the center and sponsored and/or participated in a variety of fundraising events.

“Marcum is a wonderful partner in the fight against cancer and we are excited about this investment in our cancer center,” said Goodwin. “Marcum’s commitment will help us move one step closer to our goal of finding a cure for cancer.”

About the Marcum Foundation
The Marcum Foundation was established in 2005 as a way to support charitable organizations within the South Florida community. Team members from the firm Marcum LLP are actively involved in the selection of causes. They participate in a variety of fundraising activities throughout the year, offering their time and money to charities that are dear to them. Marcum LLP matches dollar for dollar for every team member donation made. Through team members’ contributions and matching donations, the Marcum Foundation raised more than $85,000 in 2007.

Recently, the Marcum Foundation launched a Planned Giving Program, a voluntary program where Marcum LLP team members can have donations deducted directly from their paychecks. These donations are distributed quarterly to four South Florida non-profit organizations that support causes in these categories: healthcare, children’s welfare, the elderly and poverty. Marcum LLP is the only Florida-based accounting and advisory firm that has a charitable giving program of this kind.
